An immersion heater uses an electrical element inside a hot-water cylinder. It is normally supplied by a dedicated circuit through a suitable switch or timer. Dual-element cylinders may have separate off-peak and boost arrangements.
When hot water is unreliable, the cause could be the element, thermostat, timer, supply, protective device or wiring. Electrical diagnosis should distinguish those before parts are changed.

Do I need an electrician or plumber?
Electrical testing can identify the fault. Replacing an element inside the cylinder may also require plumbing work.
Why does it trip only after several minutes?
Element insulation can break down as it heats, so the fault may not appear immediately.
Can a smart timer be fitted?
