A fire alarm system detects and warns occupants of fire using manual call points, automatic detectors, sounders, control equipment and sometimes interfaces to doors or other systems. The design must follow the building’s fire-risk assessment, occupancy and evacuation strategy.
Installing more detectors without a design does not automatically improve safety. Detector category, zoning, sound levels, false-alarm management, standby power and maintenance access all need consideration.

How often does a fire alarm need servicing?
The maintenance interval should follow the applicable system standard and fire-risk arrangements, with regular user tests between visits.
Can existing detectors be reused?
Only if they are compatible, in suitable condition, correctly positioned and within their service life.
