EICR Remedial Works in Chelmsford

Repairs and upgrades to address observations recorded during an electrical inspection.

About this service

EICR remedial work addresses observations recorded during an electrical condition report. The scope should refer to the specific circuit, location and code rather than offer a vague package of upgrades.

C1 danger requires immediate action, C2 indicates potential danger and FI requires further investigation without delay. C3 is an improvement recommendation and does not by itself make the report unsatisfactory. Repairs must be tested and documented so the person relying on the report has written evidence.

Common problems we help with

Exposed live parts or damaged enclosures

Immediate protection or isolation may be needed before a permanent repair.

Inadequate fault or RCD protection

Protective devices, earthing or circuit arrangements may need correction.

Insulation or continuity failure

A cable fault, poor joint or damaged accessory must be located before the circuit can pass.

Further investigation is recorded

The cause or extent could not be established during the periodic inspection and needs focused testing.

How we carry out the work

01

Review every observation

We match the report code and description to the actual circuit and confirm whether further diagnosis is needed.

02

Price defined repairs

Each item is scoped with access, materials and any likely making good made clear.

03

Repair, test and issue evidence

Completed work is verified and supported by the appropriate certificate or written confirmation.

What is normally included?

  • Initial discussion about the property, symptoms, priorities and timescale
  • Assessment of the relevant circuit, equipment, access and existing protection
  • A written scope for the proposed eicr remedial works work
  • The agreed installation or repair work, with disruption kept to a reasonable minimum
  • Inspection, electrical testing and appropriate handover documentation

Before the work starts

  • The purpose of the inspection and the person who will rely on the report
  • The number, accessibility and labelling of circuits
  • Previous certificates, alterations and known defects
  • Whether operational areas need phased testing or out-of-hours access

What affects the price?

The price depends on the existing installation and the amount of work required. For eicr remedial works, the main factors normally include:

  • Circuit count and distribution-board quantity
  • Access to accessories, plant and tenanted rooms
  • Quality of existing circuit schedules and records
  • Extent of follow-up investigation or separately authorised remedial work

Testing, certificates and handover

Once the installation work is complete, we inspect and test it and provide the records that apply to the job.

  • An identified inspection or test record
  • Recorded results and observations for the agreed inspection
  • An explanation of priorities and recommended actions
  • A separate quotation where remedial work is requested

EICR Remedial Works questions

Does a C3 have to be repaired?

C3 means improvement recommended. It does not require remedial work for the EICR to be satisfactory, although the improvement may still be worthwhile.

Can another electrician complete the remedials?

Yes. They must verify their own work and provide appropriate evidence. They do not rewrite the original EICR.

Will repairs change the original report to satisfactory?

The original report remains as issued. Written evidence of completed remedial work is kept with it to demonstrate action.
