A CCTV system records or monitors selected areas using cameras, network or coaxial cabling, recording equipment and remote access. Useful coverage depends on the purpose: identifying a face at an entrance is different from observing general movement across a car park.
Camera height, lens, night illumination, backlighting, data retention, privacy and network security should be designed together. A high-resolution camera pointed at the wrong area still provides poor evidence.

Faces are not identifiable
The camera view may be too wide, high or backlit for the required detail.
Night images are washed out
Infrared reflection, nearby walls, dirty covers and poor supplementary light can obscure the picture.
Remote viewing is unreliable
Router, account, app, recorder and upload bandwidth issues can affect access.
Recording has gaps
Failed disks, incorrect schedules, power loss or camera disconnection may go unnoticed.

It depends on camera quantity, resolution, recording mode and storage capacity.
Do wireless cameras need power?
Yes, unless battery powered. Fixed cameras often use one network cable for data and PoE power.
Can lighting improve CCTV?
Yes, if positioned to support the scene without glare or overexposure.
